It was in January of 2014 that I got the phone call that left me in shock and trembling. How could this be? Flor and her husband, Antonio, had just been at our house three days before for dinner. At one point during the conversation, Flor had turned to her husband and said, “Antonio, I know where I’m going when I die, but you don’t! The thing I want most in this world is for you to accept the hope that Jesus offers you!”
Marcela was struggling with loneliness. She had moved to the state of Rio Grande do Sul from her state of São Paulo to study biology at Unisinos University. The apartment she lived in was close to school but far from much of city life and was especially quiet and deserted on weekends.
The appropriate moment presented itself to Carter, when God opened a door of opportunity during one of his band periods at his high school in Texas. One of his good friends, Cody, had some questions about the Bible. As Carter answered them, Cody continued to show interest.
Everyone loves a good story. Stories have always been and continue to be central to human cognition and communication. Through a story, you can teach, persuade, and even bring understanding of oneself. Since each person’s life is a story, we are drawn to stories because we see ourselves reflected in them. For that reason, stories can have a powerful impact on human beings.
