The BibleStorying Workshop equips you to tell stories (events from God’s Word) effectively. You will learn and polish at least three Bible events, practice telling those stories, and learn how to use Good Soil resources to share those stories in your personal ministry.

Catering to Oral Learners

Missionaries and Christian leaders around the world are finding that often the best way to make disciples of oral learners is through Bible storytelling. What’s an oral learner? Well, whether someone simply can’t read or write (primary oral learner), or whether he/she has a university degree but prefers not to read much anymore (secondary oral learners), they both are oral learners: they gain their knowledge in ways other than through reading. Most often they learn through stories told around a campfire, in a community meeting room, or on big or small screens.

Biblestorying is More Than Memorizing

But as people begin to jump into the storytelling world, they think they must memorize Bible stories so they can tell them accurately “word-for-word.” However, the orality movement encourages what they call “detail-for-detail accuracy.” To gain this level of storytelling ability, one needs to learn Bible stories through at least one method of story boarding. The storyteller will also want to join or start a storying group to practice storytelling skills. Then, depending on the culture of the people, the storyteller will develop a story list appropriate for his/her target group.

What Will You Gain?

This two-day Bible storytelling workshop will give you what you need to develop storytelling skills and resources to do all of the above, getting you on the road to ministering with Bible stories. You’ll be exposed to several story boarding techniques and be encouraged to pick the one or two which are right for you. You’ll work closely with others as a storying group, learning storytelling and relational skills which can be applied to your own storying groups in the future. You’ll also be exposed to several story lists and begin to understand what stories need to be included in your own list to be told to your friends and family.

The Story of Hope Journey in Germany

From a German pastor: "Translating 'The Story of Hope' is a personal project we have taken to help bring God's Word to Germany. We had the chance to use it for the first time in a German church recently. Considering the size of the church, we were expecting between 10-20 people who may be interested to follow TSOH throughout the entire program. God far exceeded our expectations, and we had an average of 44 people attend.

Evangelistic Bible Study in a Ukrainian Village

UKRAINE—A car showed up at the clinic in New Kubanka from a village I had never heard of--Shamanovka. In Ukraine it is a big deal for villagers to travel between villages, having to hire a car. These people expressed such urgency in their request for me to go see some patients in their village who have no access to health care. They had heard about the free clinics from relatives.

Good Soil E&D in a Local Church

We often say that Good Soil Evangelism and Discipleship (E&D) is not a program—it’s a theology of evangelism and discipleship for which we have created some complementary implementation resources. In our training and promotions, we have resisted the term “program” because it often connotes a firmly fixed set of steps that, if followed, will automatically produce good results. That said, here are some general ideas that should be considered in the process of forming a customized local church program based upon Good Soil theology and resources:
