Why Johnny Can’t Read the Bible

Most Americans—including Scripture-loving evangelicals—cannot name the disciples, the Ten Commandments, or the first book of the Bible. But that's not our biggest biblical illiteracy problem. Even weekly churchgoers who know the names and places struggle to put it all together and understand the Bible as a single story of redemption.

The Greatest Story Never Told

The subtitle, Recovering Biblical Literacy in the Church, sums up the focus of this Christianity Today article. The author presents a sad but realistic analysis of the lack of Bible knowledge possessed by members of typical evangelical churches in North America. There is no wonder then that biblical illiteracy among modern (or should I say "postmodern") non-Christians in America is as appalling as it is. The essence of this article underscores the need for Good Soil Evangelism and Discipleship.

Beginning With Moses

This website focuses on Biblical Theology. The greatest value of the site is the collection of articles (see the menu at the top of the Home page) written by a variety of scholars, professors, and ministers, including D.A. Carson, Darrell Bock, Graeme Goldsworthy, and many others. As with any external resource such as this, we certainly cannot vouch for everything taught in every article or other resource on the site.

As a timer for Good Soil seminar activities we often use TimerTools Software. That software can be purchased through this website.

The Hope DVD

From this site you can view The HOPE DVD in English or Spanish. You can also download a free study guide for The HOPE and order a variety of language versions of The HOPE DVD.

Rose Publishing

In addition to the many other excellent Bible study-teaching resources available from Rose Publishing, we especially recommend their resources dealing with the Old Testament tabernacle. The Rose Book of Bible Charts, Maps, Time Lines is also a helpful resource for use with The Story of Hope. The cutaway drawing of Noah’s ark is particularly helpful in clarifying the size and functionality of the ark.

Laughable Lyrics Audio CD

For a bit of comic relief in transition times during Good Soil seminars, we sometimes use funny recorded songs from these CDs: Laughable Lyrics for Meetings and Training and Tunes for Trainers. These CDs can be purchased from this website.

iWORSHIP MPEG Video Library

These are the worship videos that we often use in our training seminars. The ones we use (MPEG versions) can be loaded on a hard drive and played using a computer media player software. Great resource - worth the money.

The Tabernacle Place

This is an excellent “all you need to know about the tabernacle” website. It is owned by the people who publish the book, The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus (which we highly recommend). From this site you can learn all about the Old Testament tabernacle and also order visuals to aid you in teaching others about the tabernacle’s structure and functions.

New Tribes Mission Books

The Firm Foundations Bible study material and a good variety of other chronological Bible teaching resources are available from this site.
