Sergei Golovin, author. Despite the thousands of missionaries and millions of dollars invested in evangelizing the post-communist world of the former U.S.S.R., the long-term results have been disappointing. This article analyzes the failures and concludes that the traditional western model for evangelism was the primary reason. This traditional western model assumes that the gospel recipient understands basic concepts inherent in a Biblical worldview, when that was not the case for most members of post-communist societies. The author concludes that evangelism, particularly in post-communist cultures, must focus on genuine repentance (worldview transformation) in order to be effective.
